About

Sridevi was one of the greatest actresses in the history of Indian cinema — widely regarded as Bollywood's first female superstar. With a career spanning five decades from childhood roles to extraordinary adult performances, she transcended generations and languages, excelling in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi films.

Her iconic performances in films including Sadma, Chalbaaz, Mr. India, Chandni, Lamhe and English Vinglish demonstrated a range and charisma unmatched in Indian cinema. Her comeback in English Vinglish (2012) — her first film in 15 years — was met with critical acclaim and proved that her talent was timeless.

She was awarded the Padma Shri in 2013. She passed away in February 2018, aged 54, just weeks before the 8th Asian Awards ceremony at which she was honoured. The award was a tribute to her extraordinary legacy and her unparalleled contribution to Indian cinema.
