Zayn Malik

Zayn Malik was one fifth of London-based boy band One Direction. Aged 22, Malik is from Bradford, West Yorkshire. He is of English and Pakistani descent. Zayn competed on 7th season of The X Factor, initially as a solo artist before the judges decided to put him together with four other boys and formed One Direction. One Direction finished in third place in The X Factor but were subsequently signed to Syco Music. - A record label owned by Simon Cowell. One Direction have won two Brit awards, three NME awards, three Teen Choice awards, four MTV Video Music awards and they are in the Guinness World Records for becoming the first British band reach number one in the US charts with their debut album.

Malik is an Official Ambassador of the British Asian Trust which was founded in 2007 by HRH the Prince of Wales to raise awareness about the widespread poverty and hardship in South Asia, and empower disadvantaged people to transform their own lives. In 2013 One Direction was named the world's No. 1 bestselling artists, with one in every eight albums sold being a One Direction album. The album clocked up global sales of four million, contributing to UK acts taking a 13% share of global sales. In 2014 Billboard named One Direction the top artist of the year. One Direction also became the first band in US Billboard history to have their first four albums debut at number one. In 2014 Forbes listed One Direction as the second highest earning celebrities under the age of 30, with a group earning of approximately $75 million from June 2013 - 2014.

In 2015, Malik used his birthday as an opportunity to raise month for charity - in this case the British Asian Trust. Zayn quit One Direction in March 2015 and subsequently announced his desire to forge a solo career.
