ANUPAM KHER

Anupam Kher

Anupam Kher is an Indian actor and has appeared in numerous films and plays. Kher has also founded the Anupam Kher Foundation in 2008, which is based out of Mumbai. The Foundation aims to maximise the opportunities for less privileged children by helping them to develop life skills. A Kashmiri by birth, Anupam Kher has been working for the displaced Kashmiri Pandits by bringing to global attention the issues concerning their community. Kher is involved with Pratham Education Foundation as a Goodwill Ambassador. Pratham is the largest non-governmental organisation working to provide quality education to the underprivileged children of India, to raise money towards education of under-privileged children in India. Kher is one of the founding members of the People for Animals which is India’s largest animal welfare organisation with a nationwide network of 26 hospitals and 165 units. PFA work to rescue and rehabilitate sick and needy animals. In 2004, Kher won the Padma Shri Award for his contribution to Indian Cinema. The Padma Shri award is one of the highest civilian awards given by the Government of India. In 2005 Anupam Kher established and is Chair of Actor Prepares (Mumbai, Chandigarh, Ahmadabad and London), an acting school for individuals who wish to pursue careers as actors. Each student receives individual guidance and counselling throughout the programme from Kher. In February 2013 Kher was honoured by the Los Angeles City Council for his cinematic achievements. Kher recently starred in Silver Linings Playbook opposite Robert DeNiro, Bradley Cooper and Oscar and Golden Globe winner Jennifer Lawrence.
